My commemorative event would be my graduation, which would (hopefully) be in June 10th, 2011. This would be important for me to commemorate because it represents the end of my 13 or 14 year attendance in SFS. The commemoration would only be for one day; every 10th of June (or whenever my graduation is). For the one day, I would rest, no matter what day of the week it is in I will rest and probably look at my old yearbooks. The phrase that would be said on that day would be "Finally."

The story that my group had to perform was 'The Creation of Seasons'. The story is about Persephone getting kidnapped by Hades, and his attempts to get her to stay there to rule the underworld with him. After many failed attempts, he finally traps her in the underworld by getting her to eat pomegranate seeds. The mystery that this story answers is the creation of seasons.

I think that nature and creation prompt people to seek out religion because it will help them answer the questions about life and why we are here. People have no idea how we came to be, and religion will help them think that we are all here for a reason, and it will help ease the curiosity that they may have. However, I think Taoists, as well as Buddhists and Hindus seek out religion, to be one with nature. Taoists, Buddhists and Hindus believe in the eternal spirit and reincarnation. Reincarnation is the belief that your spirit and mind will leave your body, once you die, and reappear in something else, whether it is a human or animal, etc. I also believe that people may worship creation because of the beauty that nature and everything else has.

Modern Religious Experience: Reflection #4: Buddhist Meditation

My meditation spot was my bed, it took me a while to be in a meditated state because after a couple of minutes I found myself falling asleep. When I was able to get in a meditated state, I had nothing in my mind because whenever I would let myself think about certain things, I would distract myself and have to start over again. I wasn't able to get any inspiration during my meditation because I ended up falling a sleep for the entire night.

Reflection #3

Gandhi’s idea of Hinduism was that each Hindu should respect other people and religions. An example of this is when the Hindus were yelling “Death to Jinnah” or something similar to that, and Gandhi went out and told them something about not to say that and that he was a Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Christian, etc. and whenever they say that, they say it to him. Another example is when Gandhi was fasting and a Hindu went to him saying he killed a Muslim boy, Gandhi told him to find a little Muslim boy and raise him as a Muslim.

“Action expresses priorities.” This quote perfectly represents Gandhi and how he lived because he was a non-violent protester and that was his priority, to get India’s independence without violence, this is seen throughout the entire movie, especially in the part where the Indians were protesting on the street and the police where stopping them by hitting them, the protesters wouldn’t hit back because Gandhi told them not to, and to stay calm. However, Gandhi was at the same time bad to his wife.

Religion has not contributed much to my own history because I grew up being an atheist, however I have attended a Christian school all my life, but it hasn't changed my religious beliefs, it might have educated me a bit more about religion than I thought I would want to know. Even though I am atheist I do celebrate Christmas but not the same way christians do, I celebrate it for giving and receiving gifts and not to celebrate the birth of Jesus. I do not think that Christmas has contributed anything to my life because it isn't a profound experience to me.
